Mangoes: Weight Management & Food Craving
Mangoes: a Natural Weight Loss Tool
Mangoes are an unexpected but welcome answer to the challenge of weight management. Who knew that a tasty tropical fruit could help you reach your body goals?! Mangoes aid in weight loss, curb food cravings and are absolutely delicious. These delicious superfruits are grown in India, Africa and throughout parts of Asia and have been consumed for over 4000 years. There are many varietals of mangos but they all have the same incredible nutritional profile.
Mangos are very high in vitamin A, vitamin B6, and vitamin C (i). They are also high in high beta carotene and fiber which help to assist the body in lowering cholesterol. Clinical studies have shown that vitamin C, vitamin B6, and fiber are ideal food sources in aiding with weight loss (ii). Fiber both aids in the conversion of fat stored in cells into energy fuel and helps to rid the bowel of unwanted fecal matter. Fiber is filling and as such reduces food cravings.
Mangoes decrease the absorption of fat and carbohydrates making weight loss much easier (iii). Phytonutrients found in mangoes help to restrict fat cells from growing. We all have the same number of fat cells, however some people’s fat cells are larger than others as a result of stored fat in each fat cell.
Mangoes are also antioxidant. Studies have shown the body will store free radicals in its cells; it does not recognize them as invasive and therefore does not try to get rid of them. This allows for chronic disease which in turn can lead to unhealthy weight gain (iv). Because they are full of polyphenols (plant-based micronutrients) mangoes protects the body’s cells against the free radicals that can damage the cell membrane.
Hydration – 101
One of mangoes’ best qualities are their high water content- they are made up of 80% water. Water is essential when trying to lose weight or improve your daily diet (v). It removes toxins while aiding in the elimination of stored salts and the rotting food remnants that get stuck within the bowels. Hydration is one of the most important tenets of healthy eating and optimized nutrition., Eating mango is an easy and delicious way to hydrate and eliminate.
What could possibly stop you from adding this super fruit to your daily diet? Your body will thank you and your meals will be that much more enticing. “Tango with the Mango!” and you will not regret it!
